Meaning :--

                   The total amount by which money spent is more than money receive.

                      Lack, Shortage ( in financial term) 

Examples :--

                    Due to the recession in the market, Radha's aachaar - papad  business is running under deficit.

                     Due to brilliant  batting of India, Pakistan has a deficit of 250 runs and is in a precarious                             situation.
